With the recent passing of Dolly Parton there has been a grass roots call to make today 9/25 (9 two 5) Dolly Parton Day.  I’m all for it!  Dolly was beloved.  She always followed her own path, stayed true to it, and never apologized.  Even when some poked fun at her for her simple beginnings, her appearance, wigs and makeup, and yes, even her body…  she responded gracefully.  She got the jokes, and never let them rattle her or change her.  Sometimes she even embraced them.  While some may have tried to make Dolly the joke, she was always in on the joke and never wavered from her internal compass.

She came from the most humble of beginnings, and managed to stay grounded and never forgot how lucky she was or where she came from.  Dolly generously gave of herself every day, and never found fault in others.  If there was anyone who could be said to forgive and forget, I think it was certainly Dolly.  She was always kind, generous, and kept her sense of humor intact.

So, I’m happpy to call 9/25 Dolley Parton Day.  And the next time I am faced with my own anger in a situation, or even just a dilemma, I’m going to seek her advice and ask “What would Dolly do?”.
