Everyday Heroes – A new segment on WWER
Written by Ted Tait on June 10, 2026
Everyday Heroes:
There are plenty of places to get bad news. Online, on TV and radio “news” usually means bad news. At WWER we felt it was time to highlight some good news. That’s where our new segment, Everyday Heroes comes in. Our host Mary Parker has a brief chat with some of the people doing good deeds in Colonial Beach. Mary’s guests shy away from the title of “Hero”, but sometimes even small acts have great impact. That’s why we call them “everyday” heroes.

Ask Dr. Caryn:
Our June episode is going to be a little different – we’re going to talk about one of the most common reasons people call Dr. Caryn for help – resource guarding. She will answer the most Frequently Asked Questions about Resource Guarding, including:
What is Resource Guarding?
What Causes it?
How serious is it?
Can it be fixed?
One of the biggest misconceptions in dog training is the idea that Resource Guarding is an attempt by a dog to “dominate” their person or another dog. Many owners and some trainers still think that a dog displayes aggressive behavior around resources because they are trying to be the “alpha” — a word that modern dog trainers, animal behaviorists, and veterinary behaviorist NO LONGER use. Thanks to advances in the scientific study of domestic dog behavior, we now know that Resource Guarding is rooted in fear and anxiety—specifically, the fear that something wonderful is about to be taken away. It is NOT an attempt by the dog to dominate their owner. Tune in to learn more!
