Transmitter Troubles Being Addressed
To Our WWER Listeners:
On Monday morning, the WWER staff decided to take forthright corrective action to ensure the weak / disappearing FM signal problem gets resolved once and for all. To do that, we made the tough choice to go off the air on only our third day of operation. Rest assured we are treating this with the utmost urgency.
The station’s 9-year-old transmitter, the device that pushes FM signal to the broadcast antenna, is in for repairs and a loaner will be here shortly.
- THURSDAY 6/6, 8AM: We have returned to the air. See new post on this topic.
- TUESDAY 6/4, 5PM: Our replacement transmitter is on its way to Colonial Beach. We plan to install it Thursday morning. Our current estimate is that we will be back on the air by midday Thursday June 4th. I think everyone will be pleased with both the strength of our new signal and some tweaks we have made to our upcoming weekend lineup.
- MONDAY 6/3, 6PM: Over the course of the day, and in consultation with the vendor, we determined that the transmitter would have to be repaired offsite. We have shipped the transmitter to the repair facility AND we have a loaner transmitter on it’s way to Colonial Beach. We will certainly be off the air all day Tuesday 6/4 at a minimum, as we await the arrival of the replacement transmitter. If everything falls into place – and we’re due some good futune, I’d say – we could be back on the air by early Wednesday afternoon.
- MONDAY 6/3, Noon: Transmitter isolated as root cause of signal drop outs and taken offline for cleaning and diagnostics.
We will continue to update this post, so you know when you can expect to hear us return to the air. Looking on the bright side: this will give you a reason to celebrate with us again, as many of you did during our inaugural broadcast at midnight on Friday. Please hang with us. Colonial Beach Community Radio will be back online in a couple days, and our signal will be stronger than ever!
